Public accounting: includes income tax service for personal, corporate, partnership and exempt organization returns, as well as audits of exempt organizations, and governmental agencies.
Internal Revenue Service: As an Internal Revenue Agent, in the Office of Chief Counsel, Washington, DC., I wrote Private Letter Rulings. On the flip side, I have successfully negotiated with the IRS on behalf of clients.
Exempt Organizations: Twenty years combined at Springfield College and Middlebury College. Director of Internal Audit at Springfield College, where my responsibilities included oversight of all tax matters. Assistant Controller for Tax Compliance at Middlebury College. Duties included extensive involvement with non us citizens and their specialized taxation issues. Tax Manager at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Technical proof reading of law school textbooks in the areas of Individual Income Taxation and Tax Exempt Organizations.
Professional affiliations and engagements:
I served on the tax council of the National Association of College and University Business Officers for six years. The council worked directly with the Internal Revenue Service to forge a better working relationship with Colleges and Universities and to solicit their input. In addition, the council provided comprehensive seminars on the current status of various areas of tax law of interest to Colleges and Universities. Some of the seminars topics included were, employee benefits, unrelated business income tax, non-resident alien tax and all areas of current interest to the IRS. I always felt on the cutting edge of developments as they occurred.
My most recent speaking engagement was for the College Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky. The presentation was entitled Tax Issues in Higher Education.
Civic and Community Affiliations:
I have always been actively involved in the community I live in. I most recently volunteered at the Hartford, VT Chamber of Commerce and the Thompson Senior Center in Woodstock, VT. I have also served as a member of the United Way of Addison County, VT, Out in the Mountains, VT and Community Options, MA. I also received the prestigious Kentucky Colonel award from the governor of Kentucky.
